As a native of Woodstock Vermont, Bryan Frates discovered his love for music through his family members. Whether it was playing instruments at Christmas time, or listening to the works of James Taylor and Marvin Gaye, the foundation was built at an early age.
Bryan began his music career at a prep school in New Hampshire, singing in his high school band, Nexus. He went on to college in Maine and began playing solo shows around the campus of Bates College in Lewiston. At that time he also joined a hip-hop group called High Flow and sang hooks and verses for the dynamic group out of Boston. Bryan is currently performing in Salt Lake City as a solo act in local music venues.
Bryan’s unique style stems from his love for folk, country, R&B, hip-hop, pop, and jazz music. With an admiration of artists like Martin Sexton, Amos Lee, Zac Brown, Lisa Hillary, Vance Gilbert, and Brandi Carlile, his tremendous vocals weave effortlessly throughout genres. Tying together elements of country and folk along with hip-hop and R&B, he has created a style that is truly his own. With his passion for music and song writing, he hopes to make a full time career out of something that he loves to do. Bryan’s original songs evoke images of family, friends, and the experiences of moving through the various stages of life.
Bryan returned as a much improved and experienced artist after his 5 week 2012 Down Under Tour in Australia. The tour consisted of 20 shows all over New South Wales where he was very well received by the Aussie audiences.
